When we first started designing toys, we naturally thought about our own children and what we would feel comfortable giving to them. Safety was at the top of the list then, and it remains at the heart of every decision we make today.

We think about all the little hands that will carry our toys, the cuddles they’ll be part of and the adventures they’ll be taken on. From the fabrics and fillings we choose to the way each seam and component is constructed, every detail matters.

Independently tested

Of course, designing a lovely toy is one thing. Making sure it is safe is another.

Before a new Lily & George toy joins our collection, it is sent to an independent laboratory for testing against the applicable requirements of the AS/NZS ISO 8124 toy-safety standard.

Depending on the design, testing may assess:

• The strength of seams and attached components
• Small parts and potential choking hazards
• Mechanical and physical construction
• Fabrics, fillings and restricted substances
• Flammability requirements
• Age suitability and safety labelling

Suitable from birth

We know toys don’t always stay with the child they were originally bought for. In a home with more than one child, a toy chosen for a toddler can quickly find its way into the hands of a much younger brother or sister.

That’s why every Lily & George toy is designed and tested as suitable from birth, regardless of the age group or developmental stage it may primarily appeal to. It gives families added reassurance that when a younger sibling inevitably wants to join in, the toy has been designed with them in mind too.

Safety beyond the laboratory

Independent testing confirms that a toy’s design and construction meet the required standard—but our responsibility does not end there.

Many Lily & George toys are sewn and finished by hand. That human touch is part of what makes them special, but it also makes careful quality control essential. Every finished toy is individually inspected before leaving the production line, with its construction, stitching and components checked against the approved design.

This combination of independent laboratory testing and one-by-one production checks helps us ensure that the toy arriving in your home is as safe and well made as the one we originally designed.
